I’ve Received the Liebster Award!

One of the many things I love about the blogging community is that we have a super cool way to commend each other, and that is through awards!  SherinaSpeaks nominated me for the Liebster Award, and I’m incredibly thrilled!

The Rules

  1. Link the person who nominated you to your blog post and let them know you answered their questions.
  2. Answer the 10 questions given to you by the nominator.
  3. Nominate 10(ish) other bloggers.
  4. Create 11 questions for your nominees to answer.
  5. Let the nominees know that they have been nominated by going to their blog and notifying them.

My Answers

  1. How are you doing today?  I’m fabulous!  It’s spring break and I’m free for a week, which means time to sleep and read and relax — and blog.
  2. Do you prefer to type, or write on pen and paper? Why?  It depends on why I’m writing.  For blogging and writing papers or fiction, I like to type.  It’s faster, and that way I can just get my thoughts out and edit later.  However, I prefer using pen and paper for taking notes in class because I like the way it feels and I learn the material better.
  3. What is your favorite quote?  Why?  If I had to choose a favorite quote, it would be the one underneath my blog title, and here’s why.
  4. Cats or dogs?  Cats all the way!
  5. What is the first thing you grab at a buffet?  I hate buffets.  I think they are yucky.  I stay far away from buffets.
  6. What is your favorite thing about blogging?  I love it when others see my posts and tell me how passionate they are about the same things!
  7. What are you an expert on?  I’m damn good at grammar.
  8. What made you smile today?  I caught a ride home from school with a friend, and I got to hold her pet hedgehog all the way home.
  9. What is your dream vacation?  Hawaii, where it’s warm and beachy and I can learn to surf.
  10. What is your ultimate goal in life?  This is a difficult one, because I think goals like this change all the time.  Right now, my goal is to be happy by being with those I love, and to find a career that I’m passionate about and that makes others’ lives richer.
  11. Can money buy happiness?  It can absolutely help, but happiness is definitely possible without it.

The Liebster Award is one that draws attention to budding bloggers, so I’ve nominated several newer bloggers I’ve discovered (in no particular order).

And finally…My Questions for the Nominees

Discoveries and Nominations

I follow lots of blogs on WordPress, but one of my favorite blogs I receive by email.  Emily Rachelle Writes is a blog by Emily, and this girl is a hard-core blogger.  For real.  She posts two or three times a week, with really interesting stuff like Pinterest projects and photo posts.  I really admire her and love that she blends her lifestyle posts with things are interesting to anyone and everyone.

Recently she posted on book blogging, and with this post she changed my life.  But really, I had been looking for something to post regularly on my blog.  I love writing blog posts, but a lot of times I hesitate to post about my personal life.  However, I love to read and give out my opinion, so what better thing to post than book reviews?  Thank you, Emily!

I’ve signed up with Waterbrook Multnomah’s Blogging for Books program, and my first book is in transit as I type.  I am thrilled.

So, be on the lookout for regular posts — starting this week I’m going to begin posting once a week.  As for what those will be about, your guess is as good as mine.  :)  And in a few weeks, my first book review will be up.

To show my appreciation for Emily Rachelle’s genius, I would like to nominate her for the Versatile Blogger Award.  (I’m not sure if this is done between different blogging sites — she uses Google Blogger; I use WordPress — but if it wasn’t done before, it is now.  She definitely deserves it!)

Why I Blog

Why do I blog?  Ever since I learned to hold a pencil, I’ve enjoyed writing.  I used to want to be an author.  However, while I can give you a million story-starters, it’s hard for me to finish one.

I started sewing in middle school at 4H camp.  I fell in love.  I love all things beautiful, and I love making ugly things look pretty again.  Blogging combines my love of writing and sewing.  How did I get started?  My sophomore year of high school, I took a web design class.  One of our projects was to create a WordPress blog.  At the time I didn’t know what to blog about, so the blog sat empty.  Then recently I discovered that sewing blogs aren’t at all uncommon, and I thought, “Hey, I can do that!”  The rest, as they say, is history.
